Quick answer: If you miss a storage rent payment, a late fee is added and access to your unit can be paused until dues are cleared. Your goods stay safely stored, but the facility holds a lien on them. If rent stays unpaid for 90 days (three months), the goods may be sold or disposed of to recover the dues. Staying in touch with the storage team early is the best way to avoid this.
How storage rent works
At Urban Self Storage, storage rent is paid monthly, in advance. Your rent amount is set out in your storage agreement.
You can pay by:
- Bank transfer or cash deposit into the company account — after paying, email us the transaction number so we can match your payment.
- Cheque in favour of "Storagians Logistics Pvt Ltd".
It's your responsibility to make sure the full amount reaches us on time every month. If you pay by direct deposit, the company isn't responsible for bank-side failures, so it's worth checking that the transfer went through.
What happens when a payment is late
Here's how it typically unfolds:
- A late payment fee is added. Each time a payment is late, the late fee mentioned in your agreement becomes payable.
- Access to your unit may be paused. While any payment is pending, the facility can refuse access to your storage space. Your goods remain stored and secure — you simply can't visit or remove them until dues are cleared.
- You and your nominee are contacted. Reminders are sent to your email. If we can't reach you, we contact the nominee named in your agreement, and we may discuss the pending payment with them.
- The lien protects the dues. The facility holds what's called a lien over the stored goods. In simple words, the goods act as security for the unpaid rent until it's paid.
- After 90 days, goods may be sold. If rent, costs or other dues remain unpaid for three months from the due date, the facility may sell the goods by public or private auction without further notice. Pending dues and selling costs are deducted, and any surplus is returned to you.
- Unsellable goods may be disposed of. If the goods can't be sold, don't sell at auction, or aren't worth the cost of selling, they may be disposed of.
If you can't be traced, notices may also be published in a newspaper, and any surplus money is handed to the appropriate public authority.
What about rent increases?
Rent can only be changed after your agreed storage period ends. Before any increase, you'll receive 30 days' notice by email. If you don't agree with the new rate, you can end your agreement by email before the 30-day notice period is over.
How to avoid problems with your storage payments
- Set a monthly reminder a few days before your due date.
- Email your transaction number every time you pay by bank transfer.
- Keep your contact details current. Our terms ask you to share any change in address, phone number or email — yours or your nominee's — within 48 hours.
- Tell your nominee they're listed on your agreement, so a message from us doesn't surprise them.
- Talk to us early. If you're facing a delay, call or WhatsApp the team before the due date rather than after.
Frequently asked questions
Will my goods be sold the day after I miss a payment?
No. A late fee applies and access may be paused, but goods may only be sold after dues have stayed unpaid for 90 days (three months).
Can I visit my unit if I have pending dues?
Access can be refused while any payment is pending. Clearing the dues restores access.
Who is my nominee and why do they matter?
Your nominee is the alternate contact on your agreement. If we can't reach you, we contact them, and we may discuss pending payments with them.
If my goods are sold, do I lose everything?
The dues and selling costs are recovered from the sale. Any extra amount is returned to you.
